RICK GASTON
A resume tells you what I've done. My portfolio shows you how I think. Neither really tells you what it's like to work with me—so here's a handful of random, true, and mostly unfiltered things about me. And yes, that em dash is mine.

I love the outdoors, especially hiking with our kids. It clears my mind and puts life in perspective.

We have two little rascals, ages five and two, the absolute loves of our lives and our inspiration to be better every day.

I've completed triathlons and ultramarathons, and they're far more mental than most people realize. From day one to the finish line, it's about organizing your training, managing your time, refining your strategy, maximizing every effort, and refusing to give up. I designed the logo and the finisher awards (belt buckles) for this race.

I took up watercolor and acrylic painting. Watercolor is challenging and acrylic more forgiving, but both have deepened my understanding of color, layering, and the subtleties of texture.

I learned to cook. It’s remarkable how much it’s like design: you thoughtfully bring together individual elements to create something greater than the sum of their parts.

I spent part of my childhood in Honolulu, Hawaii. The spirit of Aloha has stayed with me: kindness, humility, patience, respect for others, and a strong sense of community. I try to carry a little of that spirit with me every day, especially when driving in traffic.

Lastly, blue is my favorite color, but I also appreciate warmer hues like yellow, gold, and even red. And yes, I'm not opposed to using gradients, preferably without toddlers.

I’ve completed triathlons and ultramarathons, and they require far more mental strength than most people realize. From the first day of training to the finish line, success depends on organizing your training, managing your time, refining your strategy, maximizing every effort, and refusing to give up. P.S. I designed the logo and finisher awards, the belt buckles, for this race.
